It’s been over 6 months since I’ve been on a date.

I couldn’t be happier.

Last night I was out with friends and happened to be sitting next to a first date. I could tell it was a first date because they both looked nervous. Their were many questions and awkward silences. (Ok, I’m nosy for eavesdropping.) In any case, I want no part of THAT.

Not that I would allow myself to be part of that anyway, thanks to my handy-dandy one year rule. Yup, no dates for an entire year.

There are sometimes I damn my one year rule and wish I never set it up for myself (especially with all of the summer wedding invitations I seem to be getting in the mail lately). Other times, like last night, I’m so relieved I have an excuse not to go through a first date like that.

Either way, I still have about 6 more months to go. Trust me, I’m in no hurry.

Have you ever had something thrown at you at the last minute? Something that’s inconvenient & insane, but sounds like a lot of fun?That’s exactly what happened to me on Friday when my friend Wes begged me to take a random road trip to Syracuse with her to see a concert. A text message at noon, followed by a couple hours hemming and hawwing over it, followed by cramming to get all of my work done, follwed by throwing a bunch of random things into a suitcase, we were on the road.

And ya know what? Even though it was a pain, and inconvenient, and not to mention EXHAUSTING the next day, it was totally worth it. We had the BEST time.

Sometimes it’s better to play it safe and be responsible and reasonable…but admit it, that can be boring. Some of the best memories in life are when you’re spontaneous and random!
